Computer Forensics     [Back to Top]

Computer forensics is simply the application of computer investigation and analysis techniques in the interests of determining potential legal evidence or data collection to satisfy a specific request.   Data can be collected to determine a wide range of computer crime or misuse, including but not limited to theft of trade secrets, theft of or destruction of intellectual property, and fraud. Computer specialists can draw on an array of methods for discovering data that resides in a computer system, or recovering deleted, encrypted, or damaged file information. Any or all of this information may help during discovery, depositions, or actual litigation.

We can assist you in;     [Back to Top]

  • The prevention of electronic sabotage
  • Civil Litigation
  • Criminal Prosecution or Defense
  • Electronically protecting your Business
  • Electronically protecting your Family

We do this by;

  • Determining how a computer has been used (or is being used).
  • Determining what data, if any has been deleted.
  • Reviewing everything a person or child does, or has done while using a computer.
  • Determining what photographs have been saved.
  • Determining what sort of email activity has or is occurring
  • Determining which websites have been viewed or are bookmarked
  • Determining if a Corporate Computer Usage or Internet Policy is being violated.
  • Determining if an employee has been involved in improper conduct, such as email or sexual harassment.

In our examination of your computer, we can recover all the data on the hard drive.  This includes that data which is believed to have been deleted.

Who might want to know how a computer has been used?     [Back to Top]

  • Business Owners and Managers.
  • Legal Counsel
  • Law Enforcement Officials
  • Concerned Parents and Spouses

When would you need to know how a computer has been used.

  • When employee misconduct is suspected or alleged.
  • When there is a suspicion of theft, fraud or inappropriate activity
  • When there is a concern regarding misappropriation of proprietary information
  • When a child is missing, or has run away.
  • When internet activity is excessive or suspect.
  • When you are simply...concerned.

What process will occur once I call for assistance?    [Back to Top]

  • We receive the computer and/or hard drive for analysis.
  • We make a "mirror image" copy of the computer hard drive,  (no forensic work will be done using your "original" hard drive).
  • We retain and preserve the original hard drive as evidence.
  • We recover the electronic data requested through your inquiry, including the deleted data remaining on the hard drive.
  • We can return the computer with a working copy of the hard drive.

"Even a small 2GB hard drive can contain tens of thousands of pages of "binary" and "ASCII" text, and review can take many hours, if not days, when attempted by an inexperienced person."
